Kisspeptin-10

Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest fully active piece of kisspeptin, a natural hormone that makes the brain release GnRH, which in turn raises LH, FSH and testosterone. It is the last 10 amino acids of kisspeptin-54, the main form in the blood. It has been given to volunteers in small research studies but is not an approved medicine.

Approval status

Not approved as a medicine anywhere. FDA lists it in Category 2 for pharmacy compounding (substances that may present significant safety risks), citing possible immune reactions and little or no safety information. A 2026 review classes kisspeptin therapy as investigational. Human studies of kisspeptin-10 are small physiology studies; a longer form, kisspeptin-54, has been tested in IVF.10119483

What it’s used or studied for

  • Human studies

Raises LH and testosterone in healthy men, and a steady infusion increased how often LH pulses occur; used as a research tool to study the reproductive axis.47

  • Human studies

In a small study of men with type 2 diabetes and low testosterone, an infusion raised LH and testosterone.5

  • Human studies

In women it raised LH and FSH just before ovulation, but not in the early (follicular) phase.6

  • Human studies

Triggering egg maturation in IVF has been tested with kisspeptin-54, a different and longer form.8

  • No studies

Promoted online for men on testosterone therapy to protect fertility; no trials have tested kisspeptin for this.9

Each label shows how strong the evidence is: an approved use, human studies, animal or lab studies only, or a popular claim with no published studies. Being studied is not the same as being proven safe or effective.

Side effects

Researchers report that kisspeptin has been given to people without significant short- or long-term adverse effects, but the studies were small and brief.79

Cautions

  • It is not an approved medicine, and human data come only from small, short research studies.97
  • FDA says compounded kisspeptin-10 may cause immune reactions and may contain peptide impurities, and that it lacks enough information to know whether it would cause harm.10
